Recipient of Chamber Music America’s 2023 New Jazz Works Grant | Two esteemed jazz luminaries and four emerging NYC improvisers converge in the Grant Richards Sextet, striving to push the boundaries of this traditional small group format with ambitious compositions and unbridled improvisations. Assembled by pianist Grant Richards, the core members include Italian alto saxophonist Daniele Germani, Chilean bassist Simón Willson, and Canadian drummer Adam Arruda, a quartet brimming with creative momentum on the heels of their 2022 release, "One and Done". With the addition of tenor saxophonist Dayna Stephens (Kenny Barron, Ambrose Akinmusire) and trumpeter Scott Wendholt (Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Vincent Herring) to the front line, the group produces a powerful, cohesive sound that takes full advantage of each individual’s unique voice. The multi-generational Grant Richards Sextet, comprised of diverse members of the international community who are bound together by the distinct musical ethos of NYC jazz, is eager to present their music through recordings and live performances in the near future.
