Lee and Elizabeth Tomboulian, Couples in Harmony

Soapbox is excited to present a brand new series; ‘Couples in Harmony’. A collection of short conversations and concerts, concerning the issues of our time. ‘Couples in Harmony’ will explore the lives of working coupled musicians in lockdown, how they cope and how they manage to remain focused, disciplined, and find the space in their homes and hearts to continue their creative paths forward. (Interviews with Tracey Yarad)

USA music improviser Lee Tomboulian composes, plays keyboards, accordion, sings. He leads Ana Choired Taste (a vocal ensemble), Circo (the nation's premiere candombe ensemble), and the Weekly Reeders (his melodica-accordion-bassoon-vibes-bass-drums band).

He has played or recorded with Maria Schneider, Kenny Wheeler, Jimmy Witherspoon, Benny Golson, Terell Stafford, Horacio Hernandez, Greg Bissonette, Steve Houghton, the late Eddie Harris and many more. He taught at LIU-Post for two years, Lawrence University for six years and Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth.

Elizabeth Tomboulian, a native of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, is a singer beyond category in the Ellington sense of the phrase, most at home in jazz and blues.
Her music has taken her to Europe, Asia and all over the US. She plays guitar, uke, piano and whatever else is available. Her latest album, Love’s in Need of Love Today was favorably received in many jazz publications.

The two of them have been performing and recording together for about thirty years.
