Woodwind maestro Marty Ehrlich and pianist Frank Carlberg each have long histories in the duo setting. They have been getting together regularly this last year to build a musical book of their compositions, each chosen as fuel for improvisational combustion. This concert is the first full length performance of this new duo. Ehrlich has worked with the likes of Julius Hemphill, Muhal Richard Abrams, Andrew Hill, and Anthony Davis to name a few while Carlberg’s resume include encounters with Steve Lacy, Roswell Rudd, Kenny Wheeler, and Ran Blake for starters. Both artists are known for a lyrical immediacy and harmonic depth in their work, which will be put on full display in this evenings presentation.
