Sebastien Ammann / Michael Bates Duo

Pianist Sebastien Ammann is the leader of Sebastien Ammann’s Color Wheel, a band he leads since 2012 featuring some of New York’s most interesting and fearless improvisers, saxophonist Michaël Attias (Renku, Anthony Braxton, Paul Motian), bassist Noah Garabedian (Ralph Alessi, Ravi Coltrane, Andrew D’Angelo) and drummer Nathan Ellman-Bell (Michael Formanek, Uri Caine, Dave Douglas). Their second album "Resilience" was very well received by numerous publications both in America and internationally.
Sebastien Ammann has collaborated with such musicians and projects as Kris Davis’ Massive Thread, Tony Malaby, Gene Ess’ Fractal Attraction, Nick Biello Sextet, Jake Leckie Quartet, Michael Bates, Jon Irabagon, Mark Ferber, George Schuller, Dana Leong, Billy Drewes, John Hébert, Samuel Blaser, Sean Conly, Michael Sarin and many others, performing in venues and festivals all over the USA and Europe.

Michael Bates “serves up melodic modernism and contrapuntal elegance” ("Time Out, New York”) and is a compelling example of a new millennium musician.  He is a double bassist with a “deep, broad shouldered sound” (“New York Times”) and a visionary composer and bandleader thriving in many musical worlds.  With an eye to the future, his music draws from jazz, classical, blues from the rural south, world music, rock and blends them into a visceral and cinematic style.
