Tamangoh
Tamangoh van Cayseele has had a life-long career as a tap dancer, having emerged, mentored by and performing with historical greats, among them Greggory Hines, Jimmy Slyde, Chuck Greene, Buster Browne and more. His innovative show, Urban Tap was performed at the New Victory Theater, The Joyce, The Kitchen and other venues world-wide. Following that acclaimed show, the New York Times acclaimed Tamangoh and Mikhail Baryshinikov as the year's two best dancers. Born in French Guiana, raised in Paris, and living since the 1980's in the US as a US citizen, his dance encompasses a unique world approach. He has collaborated with many musical greats including Bobby McFerrin, Christian McBride, Barry Harris, Charlie Hunter, Elvin Jones, tabla player Zakir Hussain, Omar Sosa, Moroccan Gnawa Master Mahmoud Guinia, Taiko Ensemble KODO, Kodo on Sado Island, Japan, and master Senegalese drummer Dou Dou Ndiay Rose. Tamangoh was the recipient of a Kennedy Center Master of American Choreography Award and a Bessie. He is presently establishing a Center for the Arts in French Guiana. A life-long fine artist as well, his work has been exhibited in the US, Paris and Japan.
Lafayette Harris
Known as a “go to” pianist by many musicians and band leaders, Lafayette Harris, Jr., was born in Philadelphia & raised in Baltimore, Md. He has performed extensively and recorded with Houston Person, Archie Shepp and his own bands, and was Assistant Conductor and Keyboardist for ‘Bring in the Noise, Bring in the Funk’ on Broadway. Lafayette performed with the Duke Ellington Legacy Orchestra, recorded and toured with four-time Grammy nominee - the late, Ms. Ernestine Anderson. He toured for ten years with the late great music pioneer Max Roach, who described Lafayette as a “phenomenal new voice on the music scene today.” Lafayette has released ten CD’s including his latest ‘Swingin’ Up In Harlem’!
